Grafton went for her 1 year check-up at the Pediatrician's office last Friday. My poor girl HATES to see the Doctor or Nurse. She has a wonderful time in the waiting room- playing with the other children and watching the older ones, but as soon as the nurse calls us back, fear takes over! To begin with, I undress her and put her on the scale to be weighed and measured.....as soon as I begin taking her dress off and she sees the scale, Grafton bursts into tears!!! Once we got through that ordeal, we went to the room and regained our composure. Then the doctor came in. Now usually Grafton bursts into tears at the sight of seeing Dr Dennis, but she was a big girl this time and didn't freak out.....until he got out the stethoscope! She cried from the moment he put that thing on her until he got finished sticking the stick in her mouth! He finished the exam, Grafton calmed down (even gave Dr Dennis a smile in the end and waved bye-bye), then it was shot time. Grafton cried and had a panic attack during the shots which is totally understandable. This appointment was her first time to have her finger pricked though. She was cool during the actual prick but freaked out when the nurse had to squeeze her finger to get blood out and got very confused when the nurse put the band-aid on her finger! That band-aid was off before we even made the 5 minute ride home!! So- obviously- it was a very traumatic Friday morning for sweet Grafton.
What we learned at our check-up----
1. Grafton's weight is 20 lbs (30th percentile)
2. Grafton's height is 28 inches (20th percentile)
3. Grafton is extremely strong (this was pointed out 4 times by the nurse who exclaimed "gosh she is strong for such a little thing!!! It took two of us to hold her down for measurements and shots)
4. Grafton is not anemic (results of finger prick)
5. Grafton will have to be bribed to go to the doctor from now on! :)
Here are pictures from play time after we went to the check-up! I sure am proud of my little monkey for being so tough and bouncing back so quickly! I don't think anything could keep her away from playtime!
