Last week was a tough week in many different ways. The week started off with a sick, sick Mommy then mid-week our town was hit by tornados and storms; however, as only God can do, the week ended with beautiful skies and His promise of hope and compassion. While our neighborhood was in the direct line of the tornado that hit at 3 a.m. Wednesday morning, our house was spared- only a few shingles off the roof and a branch through Eric's trailer. Our neighbors suffered much more loss- garages were blown away, fences were demolished, trees were cut in half and uprooted, and roofs were blown off. It was almost surreal to walk outside after the tornado and see the destruction in the neighborhood then look back at our house and realize that God obviously shielded us from what could have been a disaster. As bad as our neighborhood looked, a tiny town just south of Oxford (called Pine Flat) was hit far worse than us by a twister that went through Wednesday afternoon. This tornado was headed to Oxford and had it hit the city it is estimated that over 300 people would have lost their lives. Instead it hit about 10 minutes south of town, at Pine Flat, demolishing 25 houses and damaging 60. Our blessing was their nightmare. We spent most of Friday trying to do what we could to help the small town by bringing bottled water and putting together hygeine kits for the people who lost so much. Grafton wakes up each morning now saying "help people whose houses are broken!" Please please keep all of these families and towns in your prayers- they are suffering in so many ways.
