For the past two years I have been wanting to have an airplane party for the kids and was just waiting for the perfect age. As most people know, our kids visit the airport at least once a week to see what airplanes are there, to watch them take off, and cheer when they land. So I have literally been dreaming of having them a party at the airport and was hoping it would work out. This year was the perfect year- Grafton turning 5 and James turning 3- great ages to have a joint birthday party with airplanes, painting, flying, and more.
I couldn't have asked for a more perfect day for my children! It turned out to be beautiful (a tad chilly but still sunny!), lots of friends and family came, and the kids felt very loved. Pop brought his airplane for the kids to sit in, we had wooden airplanes to paint and paper planes to color, I made a runway for paper airplane races and a "test flight" center for the kids to fly planes though. We ate cake, made hot chocolate, had snacks, and ate ice cream. The party ended with Pop and GG flying off into the sunset. It was perfect.
I am so thankful to have sweet friends who love my children and care so much for them. I am thankful for the friends and "family" who go above and beyond to help me. I am thankful for the hugs my children get and the joy that surrounds them. And I thankful that God blessed us all with a special day for Grafton and James. They truly felt like the were the most important little pilots in the hangar yesterday, and my heart melted a little as such happiness radiated from their smiles. I wish I could bottle this joy and excitement up and keep it forever. And I pray that this will be a special memory for years to come.
